Statement
Ever since childhood, I have drawn and created art. From photography to metal work to painting, my work is based on observable Nature or from memory. Whether watching the Heron standing silently at water’s edge, or the flight of a Humming-bird, I envision art starting from these points. I might utilize vitreous enamels over copper, the edge of an angle grinder on steel, or a palette knife with water mixable oils. My artwork flows from my feelings inside depending on what medium I am working with. Each piece always revolves around Nature, the environment, land and its elements.
Biography
Marti began making art before Kindergarten. At the age of seven, she attended a summer art class and made a clay horse. Many years later the Director of the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art was retiring and returned the horse to Marti’s mother. Over the past seventy plus years Marti’s art has encompassed clay, metals, vitreous enamels and paints. She works directly from memory or observable Nature. Each piece has reference points to her life, be it growing up walking in the woods surrounding the fatm or her absolute love of horses and ranch life. She would much rather be outside in the environment than inside.
